“My most enjoyable experiences as a composer and arranger have always been writing for student ensembles. Some of those opportunities have been postponed or discontinued this year due to the current global challenges. I'm elated to have to opportunity to continue writing music for young people through this initiative.”

Biography

Marcus S. Grant teaches Trumpet, Horn, and Composition at Longwood University and has been involved in the performing arts for his entire life.

An award-winning composer, Marcus has a passion for writing music that connects with both the audience and the performer. He has written over 200 different compositions and arrangements, the most recent of which have been consistently published and performed for groups of all sizes, genres, and instrumentation. These compositions and arrangements have appeared in various performances in over half a dozen countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, France, and Portugal.

Professional ensembles to have performed his music have included the United States Army Band Trumpet Ensemble, Concentus Trumpet Ensemble, The Brass Roots, and others. Professional Soloists to have performed his music include Rex Richardson, Joey Tartell, Kevin Gebo, Kevin Maloney, John Maurer, Buddy Deshler, David Koch, and others. As a marching band, pep band, and show choir band composer/arranger, Marcus has written dozens of pieces for colleges and high schools all along the east coast of the United States, including the VCU Pep Band, known as “The Peppas”.

His professional affiliations have included the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), National Band Association (NBA), Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA), International Thespian Society (ITS), and Kappa Kappa Psi National Band Service Fraternity.
