Biography
Cuban born composer Keyla Orozco is as well a dedicated music educator who enjoys working with children and young pupils the most. Educational repertoire for piano beginners and for youth orchestras of different levels can be found within her diverse music catalogue. Her international career as a Composer has made her recipient of several awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, Fromm Music Foundation Composition Grant (Harvard University), Cintas Fellowship, and MacDowel Residency Fellowship, among others. Orozco has been commissioned to write for internationally acclaimed ensembles and soloists such as String Orchestra of New York City, ZOFO (piano duet), Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, Nederlands Kamerkoor, Nederlands Fluitorkest, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Asko ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, and David Kweksilber Big Band, to mention some. Many of her works are published by Donemus, in The Netherlands, where she lived and worked for nearly twenty years. Orozco graduated in Composition at the University of the Arts in Havana. Later on, she followed advanced composition studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and Conservatory of Amsterdam. She has taught at institutions such as Conservatory of Amsterdam, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and Washington International School.
