“Poetry and storytelling are a big inspiration for my music. The first drafts of my compositions all have words and phrases next to the main melodies to which they were inspired. I then discard those words and often forget them. When I have a good idea to work with, the intellect takes control and I find ways to develop, harmonize, orchestrate it.”
Biography
Dr. Patricio Molina’s talents have been recognized by a number of people, institutions and competitions, including The New York Times which described him as “a gifted artist”. Patricio received a DMA and a PhD from Rutgers University, his Master's from Manhattan School of music.
Patricio’s compositions embrace a variety of works, from a set of easy piano pieces for beginners to a fully orchestrated three-act ballet entitled “Chiloé” and a fully orchestrated three-act opera entitled “La Sargento de la Concepción”. Other original works by Patricio include choral and chamber music. Stories, poetry, and his Syrian-Chilean heritage often serve as inspiration. He has premiered his compositions on stages such as Carnegie Hall, the New York Athletic Club, Instituto Cervantes NYC, the Newark School of the Arts, and NJPAC.
