“When we entered the second half of the 20th century, we entered the most sonically diverse time period for music. It should be a higher priority to commission and program more new music especially the music of women, people of color, and younger faces. As we move deeper into the 21st century, we will see a shift in gender, age, and race demographics. In order to serve this new time period, we must be prepared to showcase the music of the underrepresented groups before they become a majority and are no longer "underrepresented." Though I do not know all the characteristics and other composers of this particular Initiative, I must still give it praise for its engineering during a historic time.”
